Dorothy Ashby (1932–1986), die als die versierteste moderne Jazz-Harfenistin gilt, etablierte die Harfe als improvisierendes Jazzinstrument – weit über ihre frühere Rolle als bloße Kuriosität oder reines Orchester-Begleitinstrument hinaus.
