The twelve tracks from the 1995 album Dodici lettere d'amore were written during Pollina's 1994 tour. This fifth album is a high-quality work involving many studio musicians. The song Leo is considered a milestone of the album and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful songs Pippo Pollina has ever written. In his own way, the cantautore pays homage to the great French singer Léo Ferré. One feels the influence of the anarchic artist and has the impression of hearing the dead master. Leo was even adapted by Georges Moustaki and performed in French. The record has an almost classical structure and a very balanced progression, as in the instrumental La resa delle aquile (The Capituality of the Eagles) or in Per amare Palermo (To Love Palermo), a ballad for piano and voice dedicated to his hometown . In the twelve love letters, the intimate meets the public, Zurich meets Palermo. These Docidi lettere d'amore are encrypted messages, which are basically not encrypted at all. They are aimed at the people who, in one way or another, had crossed Pippo Pollina's path. The song Malatesta, for example, tells the story of Pino Giannola, a musician whom Pollina met on the street in Zurich, who died of AIDS due to an infected heroin injection. Among the titles of the album, two other wonderful songs stand out: Vorrei dirti (What I want to tell you) and Lontana terra (Far Land) with the music of Linard Bardill.
