The 12th Annual independent Music Awards winners were announced on June 11th: the award in the category Adult Contemporary went to Emma-Lee with her album Backseat Heroine. Lou Pallo with special guests was awarded in the category Tribute with the album Thank You Les. In addition, David Chesky with String Theory won an award in the category Classical Coentemporary.

Curran was first diagnosed with cancer of the tongue in early 2010, just a few weeks prior to the release of his critically acclaimed album, "Reform School Girl."
