“Friday Night In San Francisco”, the meeting of three brilliant guitarists,
Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin, has long since become legendary.
Fans of guitar music still consider it a special event. A magic moment.
One of the three, Al Di Meola, is now giving another magic moment to his fans
a quarter of a century later. But this time in Ludwigsburg, in the stylish
surroundings of the “Scala”, and with an ensemble of eight musicians - recorded
on 17.05.2004.
Al Di Meola looks back on the highlights of a career spanning almost three
decades with this great ensemble - Al Di Meola (guitar), Mario Parmisano
(piano), Ernie Adams (drums), Gumbi Ortiz (percussion), accompanied for the
first time by the Hungarian Sturcz String Quartet. For this purpose Al Di Meola
rearranged the songs. Again and again, musicians are able to vary well-known
songs with baffling rhythmical variations and deep sounds.
A special event like “One Of These Nights” unleashes unexpected creative
forces. This is how a breath-taking concert developed that night, that the
musicians involved and the people in the audience will remember for a long time.
The audience enthusiastically celebrated the band with standing ovations,
thereby creating a stadion-like atmosphere in the concert hall.
It was truly One Of These Nights.
